James Joyce's friend Oliver St. John Gogarty was on the board of Con. Poetry which published Marianne Moore who was a friend of Malvina Hoffman who was a friend of Mercedes D'Acosta who was a lover of Greta Garbo. OK, the Gogarty-Moore link is weak and I wouldn't even know it without your blog post, but the rest of the chain works.
You're almost there, Susan! Except that the Gogarty - Moore connection is rather too far of a separation. They did not know each other. Therefore, you need someone between Moore and Joyce. My calculation of 6 degrees included Rita D'Acosta as a link between Mercedes and Malvina, but she might not be necessary.
Oh WOW! I don't even know where to start with this one. BAZ? Where are you?
ReplyDeleteMercedes de Acosta have anything to do with this?
ReplyDeleteGood question, BAZ. Yes, she does.

ReplyDeleteOK, let's make the connection between Joyce and Moore Ezra Pound. Does that work?
ReplyDeleteGood work! I'm impressed too!
ReplyDeleteThat works! Ezra Pound or Eliot. Or even Robert McAlmon (Bryher's husband).
ReplyDeleteNow it's your turn, Susan. Get out your Gratz notes, everyone!
